Psychological support

Below is the information on psychological support provided by the University of Silesia for students, doctoral students and employees of the University of Silesia.

1. Psychological support for students and doctoral students

Consultations and advisory services

In the difficult period of restricted educational activity of the University of Silesia, as well as many other activities, students and doctoral students may be particularly affected by personal issues, which is why the previously existing support is provided both on-site (subject to sanitary regime) and online (upon previous arrangement of a meeting through the e-mail address indicated below).

The following specialist consultations are available:

  • psychological (psychological intervention and support, diagnostics, cognitive and behavioural therapy)
  • psychiatrist (consultations possible after previous contact with a psychologist)
  • career counselling
  • career coaching.

Students and doctoral students who want to use the psychological or psychiatrist consultation services should contact us by e-mail:

Consultations will be conducted via Skype. The following technical requirements must be fulfilled to take part in online consultations:

  • access to Internet from any device on which the participant has a Skype account;
  • headphones with microphone and camera can be used to ensure a better quality of connection;
  • quality of Internet connection and details related to software settings may affect the quality of connection, which is why we recommend running a sound test before the consultation (in line with the software distributor guidelines).

We additionally recommend:

  • participating in the Great Competency Assessment, which is conducted online. All information is available on the Career Office website;
  • • reading popular science articles and watching multimedia content in the field of psychology and personal development, available on wiecjestem.us.edu.pl.

Student and PhD Student Ombudsperson

You can also report your problems to Assoc. Prof. Agnieszka Bielska-Brodziak, Professor of the University of Silesia from the Faculty of Law and Administration, specialist in the field of theory and philosophy of law, practising legal counsel, who was appointed Student and PhD Student Ombudsperson in September 2020. It is worth emphasizing the fact that Prof. Agnieszka Bielska-Brodziak was awarded the Students’ Laurel in the “student’s friend” category in 2015.

2. Psychological support for students and doctoral students

In response to the extraordinary circumstances related to the spread of SARS-CoV2 virus, Student Service Centre at the University of Silesia in Katowice has provided the possibility of psychological consultations for foreign language students.

This applies to all students who are currently taking part in student exchange programmes at the University of Silesia, especially those who are in a difficult position due to the current epidemiological situation.
Psychologists will be available via SKYPE.

If your situation is difficult and you need to talk, please write to psycholog@us.edu.pl. We will arrange the meeting date together.

Technical requirements:

  1. You need access to the Internet from a any device on which you have a SKYPE account.

3. Psychological support for employees

We have found ourselves in an unusual, exceptionally difficult situation. A lot of changes occurred in our family, social and professional lives, and frequently turned our previous daily functioning upside down. We have to take decisions and actions that are very hard to handle on our own. You can rely on the support of specialists from the Institute of Psychology at the University of Silesia!

  • home quarantine and its impact on your relationships with your family and friends,
  • work in the new virtual reality, coming around to it, its organisation and effectiveness,

Dominik Adamek– psychologist, psychosocial skills workshop coach. He has several years of experience in working with people in crisis, threatened with social exclusion or being in difficult professional situation, gained in Silesian foundations, associations and social care.

Krystyna Buszman – psychologist and psychotherapist. She has ten years of clinical experience in working with individuals who face crises and mental disorders. She works at a psychiatrist ward and helps patients with somatic diseases.

Maciej Janowski – psychologist. He has many years of experience in aid and therapy work at the Family Promotion Centre in Chorzów.

Renata Kleszcz-Szczyrba – psychologist and psychotherapist. She has a long-term experience in working with individuals in the field of individual, marriage and family therapy.

Anita Pollak– cliniccal psychologist, behavioural therapist. He has a long-term experience in working with individuals who have mental disorders or come from backgrounds threatened with psychopathology. The particular object of her interest is the problems of stress – its conditions and consequences for health, as well as psychology of labour, especially employees’ reactions to organisational changes.

Izabela Rajska-Kulik – specialist clinical psychologist, psychotherapist. She has a long-term experience in working with people experiencing crisis at the Crisis Intervention Centre, as well as individuals suffering from somatic diseases hospitalised in oncology ward and chemotherapy. Psychotherapist during the certification process within the framework of complete training in the field of psychotherapy certified by the Scientific Psychotherapy Section and Family Therapy Section of Polish Psychiatric Association.

Ewa Wojtyna – psychiatrist, psychologist, certified psychotherpist and cognitive-behavioural therapy supervisor, psycho-oncologist i and psycho-oncology supervisor. She has several years of experience in working with patients with mental illnessed at an inpatient psychiatric ward and consultative psychiatry, as well as psychological aid and cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy for individuals with mental and somatic problems.
